WAPPA is a community archival and discovery project dedicated to researching, cataloguing and improving access to historical witchcraft and pagan periodicals. This is a growing catalogue of historical witchcraft and pagan zines and periodicals. We research, identify and organize these publications to make scattered and obscure material easier to discover. Many digital copies were digitized by others and are preserved/hosted by the Internet Archive or other repositories; we link to and credit those sources rather than claiming the scans as our own. As previously undigitized material surfaces, the project may also help facilitate its digitization and preservation.
The Archive serves as a growing bibliographic directory and research resource, connecting researchers, practitioners, collectors, and the curious to existing repositories while documenting the history of Pagan periodicals. Through collaboration with libraries, archives, publishers, and the wider community, we aim to help preserve this important part of Pagan cultural history for future generations.

My name is Daphna Romanoff and I am a librarian, hedgewitch, and mom based in Arizona (originally from NY) with a passion and love of vintage and long-lost rare books and ephemera. Originally, I decided to start this project because I was curious about the newsletters and publications I read about in old witchcraft books (such as Drawing Down the Moon by Margot Adler). After a good amount of digging, I was able to track down many of the newsletters and zines I dreamt of finding. I realized many people would probably love to be able to read them too.
My hope for the future of this project is to help document, preserve, and improve access to many more of these precious zines, newsletters, and micro-publications for future generations. Thank you for visiting.

A note on “Pagan”
WAPPA uses Pagan as a broad historical and contemporary umbrella for a diverse and often overlapping collection of religious and spiritual traditions. Many of the publications preserved here used the word themselves, and their pages offer a record of how Pagan identities, communities, and practices developed and changed over time.
The archive does not treat Paganism as a single tradition or worldview, nor does inclusion imply endorsement of every idea expressed within these publications. WAPPA approaches this history with curiosity and care, while remaining committed to an inclusive understanding of Paganism that rejects racism, antisemitism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, white supremacy, and any other forms of discrimination and exclusion.
